Programs
At SHORE, we provide a variety of programs for children and adults with developmental disabilities. Individuals who come to us have challenges that include mental retardation, autism, cerebral palsy, epilepsy and many secondary mental and physical disabilities. Our comprehensive programs can begin for infants and continue throughout their adult life. Twenty-four hour supervised support and training is available for many individuals with many needs, as well as less intensive and infrequent guidance for those able to live and work more independently in the community.
Our programs are tailored around providing a comprehensive individualized plan to those who come to us for support. Families, friends and other organizations are always welcome at SHORE.
SHORE offers education/training, residential, vocational, and other supportive services. We help our participants meet the challenges of living and working in the community by assisting them to reach toward their highest potential and level of independence. Our programs focus on daily living, mobility, cognition, communication, socialization, fine and gross motor development, and pre-vocational training.
Over 100 professional, paraprofessional and support staff work together and share their expertise and concern with over 360 individuals participating in SHORE’s programs each year. Our dedicated employees and consultants, which include psychologists, professional therapists, nurses, trainers and resident assistants, work one-on-one with program participants. They build long-term relationships with our program participants and continuously reinforce their commitment to the individual.
Since 1951, SHORE has provided services to individuals on the North Shore and north side of Chicago. We continue to respond to increasing demand and expand our programs and services when there is justification and resources. Our focus, however, has always remained on the individual.
